Sixty Clicks Shiraz Mataro – A Bold and Rich Australian Red Blend
Sixty Clicks Shiraz Mataro is an exceptional Australian red wine that blends two of the country’s most beloved varieties—Shiraz and Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre)—to create a powerful and complex wine. Known for its boldness and rich flavor profile, this wine is an ideal choice for those seeking a deep, full-bodied experience with layers of character.
In the glass, Sixty Clicks Shiraz Mataro presents a vibrant, deep purple hue, hinting at the intense flavors contained within. The nose is inviting and expressive, with aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, intertwined with notes of spice, black pepper, and earthy undertones. There’s also a subtle hint of smokiness and oak, which adds complexity to the bouquet, drawing you in with every swirl.
On the palate, the wine delivers a robust, full-bodied flavor profile that showcases the best of both Shiraz and Mataro. The Shiraz brings forward bold, ripe fruit flavors—think blackberry, raspberry, and plum—while the Mataro contributes layers of earthy, savory notes with hints of leather, tobacco, and spice. The result is a beautifully balanced wine with rich, velvety tannins that provide structure and depth. The finish is smooth and long, with a lingering warmth and a touch of dark chocolate, making each sip a truly satisfying experience.
Sixty Clicks Shiraz Mataro is a fantastic pairing for a variety of hearty dishes. Its bold flavors make it the perfect companion for grilled meats, such as lamb chops, ribeye steaks, or barbecued sausages. It also pairs wonderfully with rich pasta dishes like spaghetti Bolognese, or with flavorful cheeses such as cheddar, gouda, or aged parmesan.
Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying a quiet evening, Sixty Clicks Shiraz Mataro is a great choice for anyone who appreciates a full-bodied, flavorful red with depth and complexity.
Production
The Shiraz and Mataro grapes used in this blend come from the flatter parts of the vineyard in north-west Victoria. The vineyards run from east to west ensuring they gain the maximum amount of sunlight to give the grapes all the development they need on the red sandy loam soils with clay sub-soil. Grapes are harvested by machine at night, arriving at the winery to be crushed within the hour and pressed by bag and then moved to the fermentation tanks, where they spend 4 weeks with oak staves, on their skins and pumped over four times a day.
Tasting Notes
A really expressive, bright, contemporary Aussie red. The nose of soft, open, chocolatey fruit has a clove note with a palate of fresh brambly, cherry-red fruit that leads to a gently spicy finish. Great with a BBQ in the summer, comforting meat casseroles in the winter, or just a great all-rounder in between.
